One last thing, see if Optimum has any auto responder options and you can set it to contacts only. Once you have imported your emails in Gmail you can stop importing them, my assumption is it will keep importing them and you will eventually be alerted by Gmail to access denied once the account is terminated on Optimum. Log into Gmail and follow the prompts under Settings > Import and Accounts. Once you have done that you absolute backup in case something else goes FUBAR. Not sure what the default setting in Thunderbird is but it can be set to do that with IMAP account, if that is how it is set if you click the message there will be no message for the local copy because it can't retrieve it from the server when disconnected from the internet. One last thing is disconnect from internet and make sure it wasn't just the headers that were downloaded. Select all the messages in inbox and copy them to the local folder you created. Set up the account on Thunderbird as IMAP.

If you want to be careful about this install Thunderbird, I'm not familiar with Outlook but you should be able to do same thing. Note that IMAP or POP3 can typically be used with same account. By default with POP3 the message is downloaded and any copy on the server is deleted.

Looking at the Import tab which implies they are importing them into GMAIL they ask for a POP3 account. To access this service, you must register on the main page. It is a simple, efficient and reliable service. This service can be used from any computer, laptop, smartphone, tablet or laptop.
Optonline email server info how to#
I wouldn't mind paying for a good cloud based email like Gmail Pro or Outlook if that would help, as long as I can figure out how to get all messages and folders moved over from Optimum. Optimum Mail is a service that enables Optimum Online broadband and internet users to view, store, and reply to their email. I have available to install Outlook 2016 mail client if that would prove a useful tool, but in a way I have become accustomed to web based email (Gmail) and find it very reliable and convenient. They are accessed via IMAP protocol, mainly via Gmail but sometimes direct via on a browser. I have 4 active mailboxes on Optimum, maybe 6,000+ messages. I know I can access Optimum mail via Gmail interface but I am not sure the actual messages are being moved permanently to the Gmail servers. If I drop Optimum internet service what is the best way to migrate all messages from the Optimum mail servers to either another web (cloud) based service like or, or else to my computer hard drive and a mail client prior to the disconnect?
